Lagos State Govern-ment has asked property owners on Right of Way alignment of Igbogbo-Bola Ahmed Tinubu- Igbe road in Igbogbo-Bayeku Local Council Development Area, to adjust them for road expansion.
Vanguard gathered that the seven kilometer road has become a nightmare for residents especially during rainy season, when the only available means of transport will be commercial motorcycle popularly called Okada.
On reason for immediate expansion of the road, the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, stressed that rehabilitating the age long road was to improve economic activities and reduce burden on Lagos mainland axis.
The governor at a meeting with residents yesterday explained that the road construction was part of the infrastructure develop-ment vision for the state.
He noted that the road, aside opening up the council for residential and commercial activities, will improve public safety through reduction in travel time, vehicle maintenance and transportation cost leading finally to an overall better standard of living.
Ambode, who was represented by Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and co-operatives, Rotimi Ogunleye, also said that the road will serve as a link to Ijede, Gberigbe, Imota where the State Government has established a Rice Mill turning out 32milliom metric tons daily an Industrial Park.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Olujimi Hotonu, disclosed that road will be expanded to four lanes with inclusion of seven standard laybys, dedicated lanes for cyclists and three pedestrians bridges.
A representative of Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mrs. Afusat Adegun, assured that the ministry will commence issuance of notices to owners’ of structures that will be affected on Right of Way.
